My research: BIOdiversity
Plant biodiversity and systematics
I am interested in plant taxonomy and systematics. I have experience with studies of local and general floras, checklists, nomenclature, and taxonomic revision. I have an interest in any vascular plants group, but I have more experience with the Mapple-tree (Sapindaceae) and Trumpet-creeper (Bignoniaceae) families, mainly for the liana groups. |
Diversity in science
The diversity of scientists has been a parallel study interest of mine since 2016. At first, I used to be interested only in aspects of women in science and why they are still underrepresented. More recently, I have been interested in understanding the underrepresentation in science in an intersectionality vision (i.e. considering other social aspects and color and social class). For this, I have been participating in and/or organizing roundtables, workshops, and talks in Brazil. My colleagues and I have been preparing some studies about the diversity of people studying plants in Brazil, evaluating the graduate students and professionals already with positions in research institutions. The aim is to propose reflection and public political propositions to try to make Brazilian science more plural, starting with our research area. |
